Instructor / Student Communications

To enable communications between each student station and the instructor, two equipment options are available:

Software Option
The software option provides the instructor with a permanent 'station exchange', connecting to each student via six channels to allow the simulation of standard on-board communication equipment. The channels are initially configured to represent:

• Deck Watch
• Pumpman
• Duty Engineer
• Jetty Operator
• Instructor

These may be changed to suit the requirements of a particular exercise.

Secrecy functionality is also provided to allow the instructor to 'listen in' to the activity of the student without their knowledge.

The software option requires the following additional equipment to be installed:

• Separate PC
• Fast Ethernet network
• Headsets at each workstation
• Soundcards within each workstation

Hardware Option
The hardware option provides the same facilities as the software, with the addition of 'conference' functionality enabling the instructor to talk to all students at the same time.
