Run-Time Control

The following facilities are provided to assist the instructor in the running of an exercise:

Automatic Snapshots
At regular intervals, defined by the instructor, snapshots of the model are taken automatically and a complete copy of the models database is stored to disk.

If a student makes an error that affects the running of the exercise, the instructor is able to return to an appropriate snapshot taken before the error occurred, for discussion, debriefing, or another attempt at the problem without the need to rerun the exercise from the start.

Recording/Logging of Actions and Alarms
The instructor has the ability to record 'events' for all the models in operation. When activated, the following information is recorded:

  • the time and identity of a student or instructor's action, i.e. opening/closing valves or starting/stopping a pump
  • automatic actions in any model, i.e. alarm operation or pressure relief valve operation.

This information can be printed out at any time as a record of student performance and for debriefing purposes or used within the 'Replay' facility.

Fast Forward
The system is designed to be run in 'real time' during normal exercises so as to ensure that the real life simulation is maintained. However, to enable complex operations to be run over short periods of time, a 'fast forward' facility is provided enabling extended periods of real time to be compressed into much shorter periods. This facility is particularly useful during the development of exercises.
