Introduction Model Software Benefits

Software Modeling of Liquids & Gases

Specific Issues

Ship/Plant specific
For each model there are certain specific features which cannot be generalized. These occur more often when dealing with models of ships. Owing to the nature of the environment in which they are operated they are not fixed in space. Examples of these aspects are:

Vessel Hydrostatics
At regular intervals trim, list and draught are calculated from the known contents of all tanks. These provide new hydrostatics which in turn will affect liquid flow.

External Parameters
Parameters external to the model (e.g. sea state, ship's speed, wind speed) can be linked into the model, to predict phenomena like roll-over in liquid-gas tanks.

Equipment Specific
Depending upon the installation / vessel being considered there may also be specific items of equipment which need to be considered.

As an example of this the following lists some of the specific items which have had to be considered to date:

  • Two-stage cascade reliquefaction plant for LPG tanker
  • Condensers
  • Two & three stage compressors
  • Steam, electric and hydraulically driven pumps
  • Liquid-gas vaporizers
  • Gas Heaters
  • Gas Blowers
  • Gas-detection systems
  • Eductors
