Crude Oil / Products Tanker

Inert Gas System

The model incorporates a fully detailed inert gas plant comprising the boiler supply, blowers, regulating controls, oxygen monitoring and sub systems for the provision of cooling and sealing arrangements together with an Inert Gas generator for top-up purposes. All required alarms, interlocks and controls are incorporated. The instructor also has the ability to be able to adjust and malfunction the oxygen content of the delivered inert gas and the various displayed readings. The plant is also equipped with fresh air inlet allowing it to be used for gas freeing purposes.

The IG plant is connected to distribution systems to all cargo tanks via two distribution mains. Connections are also provided to allow inert gas into the ballast system and pumproom. Appropriate valves are fitted on each tank for IG supply and pressure/vacuum relief together with purge pipes allowing either gas venting from a tank from top or bottom for dilution / displacement methods of gas atmosphere replacement. Whether dilution or displacement method occurs is dependent upon the pipeline setup together with the density and speed of inlet of both the gas within the tank and that entering the space.

The main pipelines are also equipped with pressure/ vacuum relief valves and water filled breakers.

Gas manifolds are provided on each distribution main to enable connection to shore and 'Vapour Recovery' techniques to be applied.
