Arizona Department of Transportation Partners With MRPI Ship Analytics' Simulation Technology Solutions

Phoenix, Arizona -- February 15, 2005 -- In the spring of 2004, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) began the search for truck driving simulators to enhance their snowplow training efforts. This interest was sparked by a demonstration of a MPRI Ship Analytics' Simulation Technology Solutions (STS) truck-driving simulator. Byron Strong from STS conducted the demonstration at an ADOT facility in Phoenix, AZ. STS has been in the driver simulation business since 1991 and has trained over 8,000 drivers.

Erika Martinez, Director of LTAP for ADOT, was tasked with researching the simulation industry and conducted a review of STS, its customers, and its competitors. This effort revealed that STS was a pioneer and leader in the simulation industry and that STS had developed the industry's first snowplow training software, suitable for the training of snow plow drivers of DOT's, cities, states and municipalities. The proprietary snowplow software was developed in a combined effort with STS, the Utah Department of Transportation and the University of Utah . STS is a company with high integrity and a long-standing reputation for the best technology available in the market place. STS also has an excellent staff who are experts in the simulation industry and who are committed to achieving world-class customer relations and service.

In December of 2004, ADOT contracted with STS to provide mobile snowplow simulation training for 200 snowplow drivers in 6 different Arizona locations. The contract was completed in a timely manner and received rave reviews from those involved. The entire STS team was very accommodating and frequently went well beyond the requirements of the training contract. The feedback that we received from our driver surveys was that 96% of the students enjoyed the training and thought it was valuable and effective. During this time ADOT also commissioned the services of Arizona State University (ASU) to conduct a 2-year research project on the viability and effectiveness of snowplow simulation training. All preliminary indications show that the simulation technology and training that STS is providing will be effective and fully adopted by ADOT. We are currently in the process of purchasing our first STS simulator to be used for training in our Globe, AZ district. In 2006, upon the conclusion of the ASU research project, we expect to purchase additional simulators for our remaining districts.

ADOT, in conjunction with STS, will also be participating in a snowplow simulation user group on April 17-20 at the Snow Conference show in Kansas City , MO . Our intent is to be able to hear the needs of our peers at other state DOT's and share ideas and technology solutions within this industry. The “user group” forum will allow us to take ownership in providing the right training solutions not only for ADOT but also for everyone who participates in snowplow training.

We look forward to a long-lasting relationship with STS and would recommend their services to any parties needing to enhance their driver-training program.
